This book was designed to keep kids entertained and engaged in your road trip while they are in the car. Not only will they be busy solving puzzles, but they will also engage the entire family in games, questions, get to know you activities, etc.

This Christmas Activity Book sports nearly 50 pages of coloring activities, games, puzzles, and scriptures to keep your children busy for hours.

Feel free to download the PDF version of our activity book and print it out for your children. If your printer supports booklet printing, it can make a handy little 5.5 x 8.5″ booklet. If a booklet format is not for you, you can also print out an 8.5 x 11″ version of the booklet with the same PDF file.

All you have to do is print out the book and staple it together. Make sure the kids bring a few pencils and maybe some crayons or colored pencils. Print out a copy of the book for yourself also as you may be engaged with the children as they work through their booklet.

The booklet does contain a few pages of scriptures that give the basic Christmas Story. We encourage you to spend some time with the kids to read and discuss it together. There is also a page for a free gift as well.

Remember, both Christmas holidays and family road trips are a great tool to build memories that will last with your children their entire lives. Not only will your children be excited about their Christmas destination, but with our activity book, we hope they enjoy the journey to their destination as well.

Christ Centered Christmas Activity Book

Our downloadable worksheet has a box with four sections. Each section of the box will be space for part of a body to be drawn by the participants. The first person will draw a head and shoulders in the top box. Then fold your drawing backward along the “Fold Here” line so that it is not seen by anyone else. Pass the paper to the next person who will draw the chest and upper arms. Fold that section over and pass the paper to the next person who will then draw the waist, hands, and upper legs. Fold that section over and hand to the last person who will draw the lower legs and feet. Unfold the paper and check out your creation. It is helpful to put notch lines on the top of each following section so that the person knows where to connect their body parts to yours.

Whether on the road, in the classroom, or playing games as a family, the Categories Activity worksheet can be a fun companion to many situations. It can be played by children, teens, or adults…they just need to be able to read and write.

The ‘Categories’ generator creates a grid with a number of topics down the left column of the grid. It will also create a number of columns with letters at the head of each column. As you type in your own categories/topics and letters, the generator will create the grid for you.

When you print out the grid, the players will write down words that start with the letter in the column that fit that category or topic. Players will try to write in words that fit the category and start with the letter in the top row of that column. (Under to the letter L, for the topic of ‘Automobile’ for example, you might write ‘Lexus’.)

Players should try to fill out the grid as much as you can. Challenge others to the same puzzle and see who can come up with the most.

You could also possibly give more points for each unique word, should some people choose the same word as another player.

Another variation is to print only one sheet. The players take turns filling in one word. The first person that cannot fill in a work in the remaining spaces is out and it moves to the next player. The last player to write a word on the worksheet could be the winner.

One of the favorite puzzles my kids like to do on road trips is to solve logic puzzles. They have become such a demand, that we have created a tool that allows you to create logic puzzles of your own. Right now we support 4×4 sized puzzles.

Simply enter a title and description for your puzzle. Then list the entities (labels such as Car, Color, Shirt, Music, Name, Birth Month, etc) for your puzzle. Put the entity values in for each entity (eg. for Color: Blue, Black, Yellow, Orange). Then type in your clues as well as text for your solution.

The tool will automatically generate the puzzle for you, including a solution that is blacked out on the screen.

Summer 2011 Trip Activity Passport

All you need for this game is some paper and a pencil. The game is designed around two players, but you could modify it a bit for more players if desired.

The object of the game is to guess your opponent’s secret word through a series of word guesses and logic.

To begin, each player picks a secret word of Five letters. You should agree before hand the types of words that are allowed (eg. Proper Names, Abbreviations, Contractions, words with repeating characters, etc.) Each player writes down their word without letting the other person see it.

To start the game, each player takes turns throwing out five letter words to their opponent. Their opponent tells them how many of the letters were found in their word. For example, if your opponent had select the word “phone” and you had guessed the word: “home”, they would respond with a “three” since three of your letters were found in the word. You would then write the word down on your paper and write a 3 next to it. After so many guesses you should be able to start deducting which letters are in the word.

The first person to find their opponent’s word wins the game.

The activity passport books are free to use. Simply open up the PDF file and print out the book. These books were designed to be printed on both sides of paper in a printer. When these are printed in a two sided formation, they can then be cut in the middle and either stapled or bound spirally at a copy center.

If you have a Kinkos, or other copy center nearby, you can take a copy of the pdf file to the copy center and they can produce the booklet for you for a nominal fee.

These books are also designed such that you can reward your children from completing a certain number of pages in the activity booklet (See the last page of the passport). We also included a small section at the end of the book as a field guide, or travel journal so that kids can record their activities.

Manila Envelopes are Great for Road Trips

At designated times of the trip, or just when you feel the time is right, break out an envelope. Let one child open the envelope and distribute the contents to their siblings. Spend the next segment of your trip doing the activity or game that was contained in the envelope.

Our family takes turns opening the envelopes so that during the trip all the children are able to open at least one envelope.

You will find that the kids will enjoy having a turn at opening the envelopes and distributing their contents around the car. Additionally, it provides a way for you to break up the trips into smaller milestones.

This method is a great way for families to interact during a long road trip. Our children have always loved what we have named “the envelope system”. Nearly every road trip we take, we get questioned as to whether or not we have prepared any envelopes for the trip.

To book a popular vacation destination, but at a discount, you may want to looking the services offered by online travel websites. These websites tend to offer discounts on popular hotels, airlines, and restaurants all around the world. The only downside to using the services offered by an online discount travel website is that they tend to focus only on popular summer vacation destinations. If you are looking to vacation at an unknown resort, you may be unable to use the services of a discount travel website.

Whether you choose to use the services of a discount travel website, a professional travel agent, or you intend you make your own vacation reservations, you are encouraged to take the appropriate steps. Anticipating room at the hottest summer vacation destinations is a costly mistake that could possibly ruin your vacation. Don?t make that mistake; book your reservations ahead of time.
