Utah had many different Native American tribes calling the land their home during its history. Some of those tribes include the Shoshone, Navajo, Goshute, Paiute, and Ute.
The Navajo Indians were more isolated than the other tribes. They had their own distinct language and raised animals for their food. The other tribes were more like hunters and gatherers.
Since the Ute Indian tribe roamed the majority of the land that makes up Utah, the state was named in their honor. There are many Ute Indian tribes on reservations in Utah even today.
